Yesterday afternoon, Curtis and I went to our first-ever track meet. Lincoln High School, in beautiful downtown Portland, hosted Grant High School. The weather was clear and delightful, the temperature a delightful 60 degrees. Andreas participated in the javelin throw. I sat in the bleachers at first, watching the runners do their relays and distance runs. It was a lot of fun to watch. I was amazed how many people are on the track and field team. It seemed like a lot, compared to basketball, football, and baseball. There must be a lot of coaches to keep their eyes on so many participants. What's not to like about a sporting event that begins with a shot from a pistol? From what we could tell, Andreas did a great job. It was fun watching all of the throwers, with their different techniques. After throwing, each would help measure the distance thrown. I got some pictures of Andreas, as well as a video. He opted to wear the black tights under his red team shorts as a fashion statement. Just kidding. He didn't feel very modest wearing the short shorts provided by the team. I noticed several other participants did the same thing. I am glad that Andreas is participating in so many activities. I think it really makes his stay a lot more enjoyable.

I never understood the black tights. Of course I never understood field events either. I am a track snob from my 3 years as a runner. I hope they killed Grant HS. That was the only high school that we went against (non league meet) that I ever saw a team just give up during a race. Oh GHS, I laugh at your pathetic excuse for a distance tam in 1999!
